Sustainable forest management

Chantiers Chibougamau scrupulously applies the principles advocated by government authorities in terms of sustainable forest management. The company has also chosen to take its management practices a step further by committing to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest certification in most of its supply territories. This commitment involves working to develop responsible management practices, in consultation with First Nations communities and various local forest users. With this commitment, the company also aims to reduce its impact on the environment and maintain a harvesting threshold that respects the forest's renewal cycle and does not affect its sustainability.

CHIBOUGAMAU PLANT

Chantiers Chibougamau's forestry operations have been governed since 2003 by the ISO 14001 environmental management system, which has defined internal rules for intervention in the forest which go beyond government rules and standards. In 2013, with the arrival of the new forestry regime, this certification was replaced by the Certification des entreprises d’aménagement forestier(CEAF).
