Chantiers Chibougamau strives to further its efforts in environmental protection and to respect ecosystems and communities. In 2007, it undertook the process of obtaining FSC certification for its sources of supply. FSC principles and indicators have been fully integrated into Chantiers Chibougamau’s practices since 2009. The company has also obtained certification for three forest management units: UAF 02661, 02662 and 02664. Chantiers Chibougamau was the first company to manufacture joists with this highly-sought after certification. Further details regarding Chantiers Chibougamau’s implementation of FSC certification are available at the bottom of the page.
Certification des entreprises d’aménagement forestier (CEAF)
Beginning 2003, Foresterie Nordic’s forestry operations (which were carried out by Chantiers Chibougamau at the time) were governed by the framework of the ISO 14001 environmental management system. The system contained internal regulations for forest management that were more stringent than the legal requirements and governmental norms in effect. This certification was replaced by the Certification des entreprises d’aménagement forestier (CEAF), a certification for forest management companies, following the coming into effect of new forestry legislation in 2013.
The Quebec Forest Industry Council is the accredited agency responsible for applying the rules and standards of the Canadian Lumber Standards Accreditation Board. The QFIC stamp of quality is recognized internationally as a symbol of excellence. Chantiers Chibougamau is a member of this agency and is accreditation reviewed by it once a month.
